Attention ALL SENIORS & 8 th GRADERS: The cap, gown, and tassel is $34. The deadline to pay is March 31 st .

Congratulations to Laniya Barnett who was the winner of the “Voice of Democracy” Essay
contest winner for the VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars 15 th District. She attended an awards
banquet in Marion on Saturday. We are PROUD of you Laniya!


1 st semester report cards can be viewed virtually via the parent portal and will be mailed home.


Students in grades 4-11 interested in trying out for the 2023-24 Middle School and High School
cheer squads, should pick up an application in the office the week of January 10 th thru 18 th . All completed and signed forms should be returned to the office by 10 am Wednesday, January
18 th . Current physicals should be in on file in the nurse’s office by Friday, January 20 th .


On Thursday, February 9 th we will have a “Celebration of Excellence” sponsored by the
Meridian Basketball team and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America:
recognizing African Americans central and critical role in United States history, present day
achievements and accomplishments. Time: 6-8 p.m. in the Meridian Gym. The attire is Black
and White cost is $25.00. See Mrs. Bartlett or Mr. David Davis for more information
Entertainment:  Live band, Singing, Poetry reading, and more. Dinner will be served
(Choice of Turkey or Chicken/ sides/Dessert)


There is a High School Track and Field Sign-up sheet in the front office any questions see Ms.
Chambers


There will be a Jr. High Scholar Bowl practice today during the Jr High lunch block and then a
match on Wednesday here at Meridian.

Any junior high students who were in art first semester need to come to Mr. C's room to pick up any artwork that they made if they would like to keep them. Please do this before Friday, the 13th. Available times to pick up artwork are in the morning before 8 a.m., 6th hour, and after
school.


Attention Students: NO students should be on the stage unless you have permission to do so.


Senior Scholarship Opportunity!


SIU Credit Union Scholarship is available in the guidance office. It is a 1,000-dollar
scholarship opportunity. Deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 31, 2023
Township Official of Illinois Scholarship is available in guidance. It is a 2,000 – dollar
scholarship opportunity Deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 1, 2023.
The Jackie Robinson Scholarship Foundation. See Guidance if interested. Deadline to
apply is January 11 th .
Save the Abandoned babies Foundation Scholarship 1,000 dollars--See guidance if

PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) Scholarship is available in the guidance
office
Senior Job Opportunities: Cache River Watershed. Temporary position available for 6
months. We are currently recruiting candidates for a Biological Science Technician, GS-
0404-5 at Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge, located in Ullin, IL. We are seeking a
motivated individual with strong organizational and problem-solving skills for this
temporary appointment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
Duties include but are not limited to invasive species treatment, biological surveys, and a
variety of day-today refuge operations.
Activities:

MS Girls Basketball plays Shawnee in the Regional @ Pope County @ 4:00 p.m. bus leaves school @
2:15 p.m.
MS Boys Basketball will practice 3-5 p.m.
