Memo: First Pep Band Performance in 29 years!
Tonight at the Boys’ Varsity Basketball game vs. Dongola, Meridian had a pep band at halftime for the first time in 29 years! Over five plus years Mr. John Windings, now with the assistance of Mr. Kenny Grundy have worked hard to create a band, which was defunct for numerous years. Starting with 4th and 5th grade students Mr. Windings has developed a program, which Meridian has not seen in a long, long time. Battling through Covid, losing students to attrition, we are starting to see the dream Mr. Windings sought when he approached the District 5 plus years ago. During this time, there has been two performances at Elementary Christmas presentations, but this was the epiphany of our new program. Congratulations to the students who performed and the staff who have assisted them to get to this point. The biggest thing our students and school can achieve out of this is getting more students to stick with the program. We have extremely talented students who only need more encouragement from home to give them access to talents, which have only been tapped. Encourage your kids to take time to get an opportunity, which can lead them to bigger roads. We are proud of this accomplishment and can’t wait to see how it grows!
